Six members of the Parua Bay and districts community centre committee in the front of their project, which has just been given a $55,000 boost by the Whangarei County Council.

Mr. Bob Stevenson, Mrs Colette MacKenzie, Mrs Heather Hutchinson and Mr Murdoch Ross, are part of the 30 strong group of residents who have been fundraising for three years to build the $600,000 centre. At a meeting yesterday the county council gave the committee a $30,000 grant and $25,000 loan to get the centre to a stage where it can start earning money

The roofing structure for Parua Bay's new community hall being prepared to take the roof. The project's main contractor, Mr Peter Miles, said work on the hall began in April this year and should be completed by the same time next year.

 

The roof-supporting girders were put in place over the past week-and-a-half, he added. The roof itself should be on before Christmas.

 

The 925-square-metre hall will contain two squash courts, a lounge, kitchen, main hall and conference room.
